There are many reasons why resurfacing is advantageous to replacement;
COST - this is the lowest price option to pay at time of service and has the lowest cost of ownership; no cost to maintain (compared to resealing granite for example), and if damage occurs, it can easily be repaired.
TIME - in and out the same day, back in service the next day. All replacement options take days if not weeks to complete.
IMPACT - we use what you have existing. There is no demolition so it does not effect anything else. For example, if you replace a bathtub, you have to remove the tub enclosure too. You have to deal with plumbing, replacing the enclosure, the walls will need repaired and the paint touched up or repainted, and the floor will need to be fixed or replaced. The biggest question is; how do you get the old tub out and the new in? A house is built around the tub so is it just a simple door removal or do you have to tear out and replace the door jam or a wall?
EASE OF CARE - wipe it off or clean using a mild cleaner when necessary. The resurfacing material is Acrylic which is the same material used in whirlpool tubs, the base material of most solid surface countertops, and similar to a fiberglass boat gelcoat. It can be micro mesh polished and even waxed.
EASILY REPAIRED - what happens if you burn, cut or chip any other material? Repairing damage on products that can be repaired will show but Resurfacing will give you an invisible repair.
VERSITILITY - can be any solid color, made to look like stone or granite. It can be smooth or textured, glossy or matte. We can even color match to get the exact color you want.
THE GREEN OPTION - Our product is VOC compliant and since there is no demolition or replacement, you do not have anything that goes in to the landfill. You are recyling your item making you enviromentally responsible.
PERFORMANCE - for counter tops, it is similar performance of laminate, cultured marble, and solid surface materials. The base component of most solid surface materials is the same as what we apply. In the bathroom, it is the same material used to manufacture new products (whirlpool baths, sinks, shower pans and enclosures; in fact, many of these manufacturers use the product we apply to touch up their new product prior to shipment).
PROS AND CONS
There are positive and negative attributes to everything. So far I have made resurfacing sound too good to be true. My background is in Quality and Purchasing and when considering quality and cost, I have been sold on this business. I have yet to find a better option for a homeowner or property manager. When I do, my business will be doing that too! But until then, I do not see any better method to increase significant value to a property while minimizing cost applying a robust quality product.
In all honesty, there is nothing better than a new original surface. If it is a tub, tile, countertop... a new product is best, if you buy the quality product. Like everything, there are cheap options that will not last and in many instances, it goes back to the saying; "they don't make things like they used to". Resurfacing is not a viable option for a new home owner or application but it can be for a specialty requirement. One example is when we made custom countertops for a yogurt shop that wanted custom colors. For existing structures that need repairs or desire/require a remodel, resurfacing is definitely the frontrunner of options. It boils down to a cost/benefit analysis to determine the best bang for your buck.
There is one con that needs to be considered. But, if Formica (laminate) or Corian (solid surface) meet your specifications, resurfacing has a similar performance to those products. These will not be extreme high heat resistant like tile, stainless steel, or some granite and stone. If you need high heat resistance for a commercial application for example, those are your options.
